چکیده
The Extremely Low ENergy Antiproton (ELENA) is a compact ring that was recently installed to complement the antimatter factory at CERN. A local H−/p source connected ELENA for commissioning purposes of and subsequent electrostatic transfer lines toward experiments, allowing progress with phase also in absence antiprotons. can produce pulses H−, length few µs an intensity approximately 50 µA 100 keV, mimic antiproton pulse extraction energy. In addition, deliver proton pulses, if need be. After years operation, several observations have been collected will be presented this work. Of particular interest observation fast (about 1 MHz) intra-pulse instability which resulted poor stability H− beam injected into ELENA. Possible ways stabilising found presented. kV High Voltage (HV) insulation transformer turned out most critical component hardware. original suffered from degradation over time iterations were necessary build reliable solution, details

Isis Ion Source Operational Experience
The ISIS ion source is a surface plasma ion source of the Penning type, and routinely produces 35 mA of H ions during a 200 μs pulse at 50 Hz for uninterrupted periods of up to 40 days. A new computer control system was installed in 1995, which, in addition to providing much tighter control of ion source parameters, has allowed these parameters to be logged every fifteen minutes and then averag...
متن کاملExperience with the Gts-lhc Ion Source
For the heavy ion programme of the LHC a new ECRIS type heavy ion source had to be designed and built for Linac3 to fullfill the intensity requirements. Experience acquired during the installation and commissioning of the source and during operation for the LEIR ring commissioning will be presented. The performance of the source and its reliability are evaluated. Further requirements for high r...
متن کاملOperational experience with the ALICE Pixel Detector
The ALICE Silicon Pixel Detector (SPD) constitutes the innermost detector of the ALICE experiment, which is the LHC experiment dedicated to the investigation of strongly interacting matter in heavy-ion collisions. The SPD consists of ∼10 million pixels organized in two layers at radii of 39 mm and 76 mm that cover a pseudorapidity range of |η |< 2 and |η |< 1.4, respectively. It provides the po...
متن کاملOperational Experience with the CEBAF Control System
The CEBAF accelerator at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) successfully began its experimental nuclear physics program in November of 1995 and has since surpassed predicted machine availability. Part of this success can be attributed to using the EPICS (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) control system toolkit. The CEBAF control system is one of the...
متن کاملElena Gracheva: Ion channels run hot and cold
With her father, Oleg Grachov, doing research in high-energy particle physics and her mother, Tatiana Grachova, working as an engineer, Elena Gracheva feels she was fated for a career in the sciences. Her chief childhood pursuits involved solving tough physics and chemistry problems with her parents. But she says her reaction upon fi rst learning about DNA and protein expression was one of incr...
